(KPL) A blood drive was held at Vientiane Center in Vientiane on Nov 23 on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of the Lao PDR.
People are highly encouraged to give blood to ease rising blood demand for medical purposes in the Lao society.
“Every year, we have an ambitious target to have around 60,000 people giving blood. However, in reality only 30,000 people give blood annually,” said Vice President of Lao Red Cross Sing Manolath.
Blood donation is especially needed for patients with thalassemia, anaemia, dengue fever, accident victims, among others.
Every day, the National Blood Centre provides 100-200 bags of blood to hospitals across the country for medical purposes.
“This year, our country has faced many natural disasters, so it is difficult for our blood center encourage the public to donate blood,” said Mr. Sing.
