One of the China’s Internet giants, Baidu, has transferred its map business from its search engine subsidiary to its Artificial Intelligence Group, The Paper reported.

The company said Baidu Maps will better integrate the firm’s AI capabilities to provide users with a superior experience through collaboration and innovation.

As the core infrastructure of the burgeoning AI era, Baidu Maps will also support the group’s business lines with more data.

However, earlier last week on social media, an anonymous source broke the news that Baidu Maps will be streamlined in the near future and eventually merged into the high-precision map team of the autonomous driving department.

Baidu’s AIG was founded in March last year. Its main purpose is to further integrate Baidu’s core technologies including NLP, KG, IDL, Speech and big data.
