Almost 30 people were killed in road accidents across the country between Dec 29, 2017 and Jan 2, 2018.
The Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security, reported on Tuesday that 179 accidents were recorded nationwide. The accidents also resulted in 280 people injured and 332 vehicles damaged.
Thirty one accidents were recorded in Vientiane Capital, 24 in Savannakhet, 20 in Oudomxay, 20 in Champassak, 19 in Vientiane, and 12 in Xayaboury.
The deaths were reported in Oudomxay (5), Xayaboury 4, Champassak 4, Vientiane Capital 2, Borikhamxay 2, and Xekong 2.
The number of deaths was increased by more than 60 % from the same period last year.
Most road accidents resulted from drink driving, speed driving and violations of traffic rules.
