Laos Establishes Diplomatic Relations with 140 Countries

Presently, Laos has established the diplomatic relations with 140 countries and 39 Lao embassies worldwide.

The achievement was briefed at an annual meeting of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held at the ICTC in Vientiane Capital last week, in presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, to review the implementation work over the past one year.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Saleumxay Kommasith expressed congratulation for achievements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the past one year and he called the participants to pay attention to the context of the meeting and to address the shortcomings in the materialization of external relations of 10th Party Congress.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay also urged officials to take into account politically ideological training, promotion of unity among the country and solidarity between friendly countries as well as include neighboring countries and other organisations worldwide.

Mr. Bounleua Phandanouvong, Head Office of Foreign Affairs Ministry said that last one year the implementation of foreign affairs relevant to the implementation of the Party and government’s socio-economic development plan as the result to attract different investments and tourists.

In 2017, we met many achievements including the host of the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summit meeting in 2016 and participated the G20 summit meeting in China, G7 Summit in Japan and the ASEAN Summit meeting in the Philippine.

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also continue pushing the country from locked country into land linked countries.
