The 12th ASEAN Skills Competition in Thailand will see 14 Lao skilled workers competing in 7 skills areas namely welding, website development, indoor installing, masonry, carpentry, tailoring and cooking.
The 12th ASEAN Skills Competition will be held in Bangkok, Thailand on Aug 24-Sep 4, 2018, Deputy Director of Department of Skills Development and Employment, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Khonesy Mahavong told the 3rd National Labour Skills Competition Committee Meeting in Vientiane last week.
The meeting was for discussing preparations for the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition.
ASEAN Skills Competition was initiated in 1993 at a meeting between the International Labour Organsiation and the Asian and Pacific Skill Development Programme in Japan where it was agreed that there be a biennial skill competition among ASEAN member countries.
Such competition is to promote and upgrade skill standards in the region and consequently to the international level, which is organized on a cost-sharing basis.
To date there are 10 participating countries and 21 skill areas to promote the development of quality vocational and technical and work values among the youth and skill workers, foster technical cooperation in vocational/technical education and training between member countries and encourage close cooperation among government, industries, employers, and workers organization and vocational training institute.
