A three-and-a-half-minute video of Hong Kong’s nine-year-old singer Celine Tam, who performed Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” in an audition on the America’s Got Talent, has been named the “most trending” on YouTube in Hong Kong this year.
Celine Tam won the hearts of many across the world with her outstanding performance of the theme song from the movie Titanic. The video has gained 42 million views globally since it was posted on YouTube on June 16.
On August 1, she received a “Golden Buzzer” from American actress Laverne Cox and was able to enter the quarter-finals directly after she sang Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed to Live without You.” That video got 7.8 million views on YouTube.
In the quarter-finals, Celine performed “When You Believe,” which was originally sung by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. The video got 3.1 million views.
In the semi-finals, she stunned the audience again by covering Auli’i Cravalho’s Oscar-nominated hit “How Far I’ll Go” from the Disney movie Moana. The video got 2.7 million views.
Celine gained a lot more views than other Hong Kong-made YouTube videos.
A video titled “My Days after Serving a Goddess,” which was produced by FHProductionHK, is the second-most-trending YouTube video in Hong Kong for 2017 with 1 million views.
Another video, titled “Canto Pop Singer Eason Chan’s 1998 Performance Was Legendary,” ranks as the third most trending with 1.3 million views. The video was an edited version posted by E-Weekly, an entertainment magazine.
According to Google’s Consumer Barometer, Hongkongers look for entertainment and inspiration (42%), new hobbies (38%) and relaxation (33%) when watching videos online.
