India’s Supreme Court on Monday refused to intervene in the Gorakhpur hospital 0xygen death tragedy, directing that grievances must be raised before the Allahabad High Court, according to media reports. Last week, about 6o children died, most of them infants in the neonatal intensive care unit.

The parents of the deceased say the deaths were caused by BRD Medical College Hospital’s oxygen supply being cut off by its vendor after the institution failed to pay its bill, a claim the hospital denies.

According to the police, no case was registered in the absence of a formal complaint. On August 12, the state government ordered an official inquiry and suspended the hospital’s principal, Rajiv Mishra.
