The long-anticipated arrival of Amazon Prime services in Singapore is here, and users will now have access to two-hour delivery of thousands of products.

The foray into Southeast Asia will not be easy, though, even if the Singapore venture is a success. The fragmented market lacks the logistics and infrastructure available in Singapore, and Amazon will have to deal with stiff competition from Alibaba, which has already set up a presence in the region.

Regardless of who comes out on top in the battle for the market, as Karishma Vaswani writes for the BBC, the 600 million potential customers will surely benefit from the competition.
